IUML demands reservation for Muslims community
New Delhi, Nov 18: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has urged the government to provide reservation to Muslims proportionate to their share in the population of the country.
IUML president G M Banatwala, in a press statement issued here today welcomed the findings of the Justice Sachar Committee report on the plight of Muslim community in India.
He said justice demands that comprehensive action must include reservation for Muslims.
The statement said, ''We must await the full text of the Sachar Committee report. The IUML had, in its detailed memorandum to the committee, submitted twentyfive recommendations for advancement of Muslims, including reservation for Muslims and integration of affirmative action with the planning process so as to provide required financial support and monitoring. Apart from this, 15 measures were recommended for promotion of Urdu in the country''.
Mr Banatwala said the IUML requests Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for placing the Sachar Committee report in Parliament at the earliest and positive action, including reservations, be taken without delay.
