Harassment of CPI(M) functionary: Notice to IG and Others

Madurai, Nov 18 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has ordered issuance of notice to the Police IG, South Zone, and two others on a petition seeking action against the city police personnel, who had trespassed into the house of a CPI(M) functionary and robbed gold jewellery and valuables on August 8.

Mr Justice M Jeyapaul ordered issuance of notice to the IG, DIG of Police, Madurai Range and the City Police Commissioner.

The petitioner, A Madurai Veeran, a CPI(M) local functionary engaged in real estate business, submitted that on August 8 evening a police team led barged into his house at Mahalakshmi Nagar and broke open the steel almirah and took away jewellery, valuables and documents worth more than Rs three lakh.

They later forced him to board a vehicle and proceeded to his relative Karuppasamy's residence. There too, they ransacked the house and took the jewellery and valuables.
