Doordarshan to launch mobile television

Jalandhar, Nov 18: After the launch of DTH transmission, Doordarshan has taken up task of Direct Territorial Transmission (DTT) and is preparing to launch mobile television, DD Director General Liladhar Mandloi said here.

Talking to mediapersons yesterday, Mr Mandloi said under the pilot project, the DTT programmes, had already been launched in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

He said Doordarshan is also doing pioneer work for launching of mobile television in the 11th plan.

Mr Mandloi said the national channel had been entrusted the role of a public broadcaster which it performed, notwithstanding the rapid changing scenario of commercialisation and cut-throat competition.

He said to cope with the challenges and compulsions arising in the wake of commericialisation and corporatisation, Doordarshan did still strive to perform its duty of public boradcaster, promotion of art culture, music and artistes and devoting 60 per cent of its time slots for serving these goals.

He said it's programmes are presently reaching to its 154 million viewers through 57 relay stations and around 1,400 transmitors in the country.

He said the self-finance programme commisioning scheme launched last year was also doing well and the serials telecast under this scheme were mostly popular.
