Complaint against firm for distorting Indian map

Mumbai, Nov 18: The city police have registered a complaint against an Austrian Company, under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971, for allegedly distorting the Indian map.

A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Goregaon police yesterday by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS).

HJS spokesperson Ramesh Shinde told reporters the organisation had approached the police earlier too, but it took cognizance and registered a complaint only yesterday.

Mr Ramesh said the Austrian company ''B and R Automation'' had participated in an international exhibition held at Goregaon from September 27 to 30. At that time, the company in their information leaflet, ''Automation 2006'', had shown an incomplete Jammu and Kashmir region in the Indian map. Lakshwadeep and Nicobar Islands were also not shown.

The convener of HJS, Mr Madhav Deshpande, had lodged a complaint with Mumbai Police Commissioner on September 27. Taking cognizance of the complaint, assistant police inspector of Goregaon Police Station, Mr D U Bangar, have registered the offence.

The police have issued notices to the officials of the company and also to the organisers of the exhibition, Mr Shinde said.
