BSNL cables reduced to ashes in Bengal
Barrackpore, Nov 18: A massive fire gutted a huge stock of BSNL fibre cables in its store at Belgharia in North 24 Parganas last night, Fire Brigade sources said today.
The fire, which broke out at about 2230 hours, could be extinguished after ten hours. 16 fire tenders were pressed into service.
Sources said firemen entered the store after breaking a pair of locks of the main gate as there was none of the six guards present.
The firemen alleged that there was no fire fighting arrangements and so fire tenders had to brought in from the neighbouring fire stations of Kamarhati, Baranagar and Barrackpore.
However, the divisional office of the brigade could not say the exact extent of losses which could be a few crores of rupees.
