40 cows die sudden death in Ganganagar cowshed, cause uncertain
Sriganganagar, Nov 18 (UNI) The sudden death of at least 40 cows one after the other in a cowshed in Ganganagar district yesterday, sent panic waves among the owners and farmers.
Even after a team from the animal husbandary department reached the cowshed in DD village in Padampura region and started treatment, two more cows died taking the toll to 40.
According to veterinary doctors, the initial reports pinpoint food poisoning as the probable cause of death.
The incident had the owners in a tizzy as they did not know what to do. Shivdarshan Goyal, chief of Cowshed Samiti said, the cows in different enclosures suddenly started dying. He said such an incident had happened for the first time in this cowshed.
The expert team, however, managed to save the rest of the cows in the shed.
Animal husbandry's deputy director Dr Surendra Verma told UNI today that some poisonous susbtance might have got into their fodder, thereby causing food poisoning followed by sudden demise.
A Post-mortem is being conducted at the Express laboratory in Bikaner.
