2 killed, 8 injured in road accident

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 18: Two people, including a woman, were killed and eight others injured, when a bus in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary mini-van near Mathur, on the Tiruchirapalli-Pudukkottai highway, early today.

Police said the mini-van laden with bamboo was stationed on the roadside, after one of its tyres punctured. The government bus, coming from Mudukulathur to Tiruchirapalli, hit the mini van.

The bamboo poles pierced the windscreen of the bus, killing two passengers on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Balamurugan (40), a teacher, and a woman Kamalam (54). All the injured were rushed to the government headquarters hospital here.

Mathur police registered a case and were investigating.
