VTU to accord autonomous status to 40 colleges

Mysore, Nov 17: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice-Chancellor Dr K Balaveera Reddy has announced that the varsity would accord autonomous status to nearly 40 engineering colleges in Karnataka Speaking after the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the VTU-Bosch Rexorth Centre of Competence in Automation Technology here yesterday he told reporters, that for the first time, the VTU would give such status to 40 engineering colleges after getting approval from the Chancellor and the state Governor.

The VTU had received nearly 49 applications in this regard from affiliated colleges.

Dr Reddy said the varsity would provide PhD degrees to six people in the next couple of months for the first time. As many as 1,000 students had registered with the VTU for taking up research.

He announced that the ISRO had allotted two more channels to the VTU to take up online education through EDUSAT for all 125 engineering colleges coming under the VTU.

The VTU has signed the Memorandum of Uunderstanding with prominent companies like IBM, Intel, Infosys, Universal Graphics Solution, Asia Electronics, Ingersoll Rand, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and Diamante Metalplastic of Germany to produce world class engineers.
