Stranded vehicles reach Drass after five days
Kargil, Nov 17 (UNI) After being stranded on the 434-km Srinagar-leh national highway for the past five days, about 50 light vehicles and the Army convoy reached Drass today.
The national highway had been closed due to landslides triggered by heavy snowfall at Zojilla Pass and several places along the road on November 12, three days ahead of the official schedule. The road would remain close for all vehicular traffic for six winter months.
Heavy snowfall was also witnessed at Drass, the world's second coldest place after Siberia, yesterday.
The vehicles were stranded at Sonamarg, India Gate and Baltal besides other places along the highway.
