Sitapur SP transferred after massacre
Lucknow, Nov 17 (UNI) Sitapur Superintendent of Police Dawa Sherpa was today shifted as commandant of a PAC battalion in Bareilly.
His transfer orders came hours after the state woke up to a massacre of 15 police over a land dispue in Sitapur.
Sources, though, have termed his transfer as routine. They claimed Sherpa was part of the 32 IPS officers transferred today.
The Sitapur police has come under severe criticism following reports the local police failed to impound the licensed firearms of the two families involved in the incident despite fears that weapons could be used to settle scores at a later stage.
The dispute dates back to 1988 and relates to a path on a piece of land on which the families of Pramod Vajpayee and Srinivas Tiwari had staked claim. A person was killed following the dispute in 1988.
Four days ago, a clash had broke out between the two families and today's massacre was a result of the incident.
