Set up steering committee to monitor Govt works: CPI
Puducherry, Nov 17 (UNI) The Communist Party of India, which is extending support to the Congress government in Puducherry, has urged for setting up of a steering committee to monitor the plus and minus of the government and to set it on the right track, CPI National Council Member R Viswanathan MLA said today.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Viswanathan said this demand was putforth to AICC general secretary B K Hariprasad when he visited Puducherry and held discussions with alliance party leaders here two days back.
The party had also urged Mr Prasad to initiate action for the appointment of nominated members to the territorial assembly without further delay.
Ridiculing Chief Minister N Rangasamy's claim that the percapita income in the Union Territory had touched Rs 1000, Mr Viswanathan said the Chief Minister had forgotten that poverty still prevailed and that the purchasing capacity of the people at the grassroot level should be raised.
The CPI would oppose the setting up special economic zone here, he added.
