Mumbai, Nov 17: The rupee today opened lower by two paise and was quoted against at Rs 44.95/97 per US Dollar as compared to it's previous close of Rs 44.93/94 per USD, on lack of fresh dollar demand by bankers, traders said.

Later, the domestic currency hiked to Rs 44.90 per USD on account of short-covering by local dealers, and is now trading again at a low of four paise at Rs 44.97/98 per USD from it's previous close of 44.93/94, due to heavy selling of the dollar by the Corporate sector and Nationalised banks, forex dealers added.
