Mann to field candidate for SGPC presidential polls

Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 17 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann today said his party would contest the SGPC presidential election scheduled for November 25.

Talking to mews persons at village Bras after presiding over a sports tournament near here, Mr Mann said he would attend the SGPC general house and appeal to the members to elect the next SGPC president of a clean image.

Mr Mann said there was a possibility of fielding a joint candidate of the Akali factions opposing the candidate of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

He said he would also expose the misdeeds of the present ''incumbent of the SGPC'' and his political mentor Parkash Singh Badal, who were using ''golak money'' of SGPC for political purpose.

He alleged that Mr Badal would spend money for its Moga political rally from the SGPC funds.

Talking about ig at Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, Mr Mann said that the Jathedar never initiated any action against the Badal family and he could dare only to target him (Mann) and the Sarna brothers of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

To defeat the designs of the Congress, which was out to lease out Punjab lands to the land mafia and industrialists bypassing all norms and regulations, a Kisan rally would be held in Barnala, he said.

Mr Mann said former Prime Minister V P Singh would address the rally. The present government was doing committing injustice for the Ghulu village farmers by acquiring their land for a project, he added.

Targeting Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Mr Mann alleged that the CM's anti-corruption drive have had people.

He alleged that at the time of divorce of Punjab DGP S S Virk's daughter she disclosed that her father had given her Rs 45 lakh cash as dowry and four kg of gold.

He said that Mr Virk never contradicted these reports. He also questioned the present DGP's sources of income.

''Let somebody check the income tax returns filed by the Punjab DGP in details,'' Mr Mann said.
