K'taka Govt asked to repatriate teachers to Edun Dept
Bangalore, Nov 17 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Government to ensure that teachers appointed as Private Assistants to MLAs were repatriated to the Education Department at the earliest in the interest of the pupils.
Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice Abdul Nazeer gave the direction on a public interest litigation filed by Ilkal Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd Director Mahantesh, seeking a direction that all teachers appointed as PAs of MLAs be posted to their original schools.
The petitioner contended that the MLAs had appointed teachers as their PAs, depriving students of learning when there was already shortage of Government school teachers in villages and moffusil areas. He cited the instance of a teacher Mahantesh Arahurasi, working as Hungund MLA's PA.
The Government Advocate submitted that the respondent teacher had been relieved from the post and repatriated to the Education Department.
But the court observed that the petition was not only confined to the respondent teacher, but all teachers appointed as PAs, and issued the direction, before posting the case to next month.
