Insane woman immolates self in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) An insane woman died after she set herself on fire in a hospital premises here today, official sources said.

The 52-year-old mentally retarded woman, identified as Halima, immolated herself in the premises of the Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital here this afternoon, they added.

According to doctors, she suffered hundred per cent burn wounds.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The sources said the insane woman could not be saved as the hospital staff had gone on a flash strike over a decision by the state administration to appoint class IV employees through the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar and not by the Principal of the Government Medical College, Srinagar.

However, some attendants of patients tried to save her, but by then she had already sustained fatal burn wounds, they added.
