Indian workers bank on dole for survival

Dubai, Nov 17: Some 50 Indian workers in Doha have been surviving on community donations as they have not been paid salaries for several months.

Over 200 workers, including Indians, of a construction company in Doha have been on strike, demanding timely payment of wages.

The labourers, who struck work since last month, have been depending on their respective community members for their daily bread.

Over 50 Indian labourers approached the Indian embassy seeking its intervention. According to reports, this company has been blacklisted by the Indian embassy.

The Indian workers are solely depending on Indian Community Benevolent Fund (ICBF) for their survival since last month.

The period of Resident Permit of some of the labourers have either expired or are close to the expiry date.

However, the embassy officials were not available for comment, a report in Peninsula English daily said.
