HP Govt urges Centre to hike ceiling of house cost

Hyderabad, Nov 17 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government today urged the Centre to hike the ceiling of house cost under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme(IHSDP) from Rs 90,000 to Rs two lakh per unit.

Taking part in the National Convention on Housing and Human Settlement here, Himachal Pradesh Housing Minister Kaul Singh Thakur said earthquake resistant houses should be constructed in seismic-prone Himachal Pradesh.

Multi-storeyed construction was the only viable option in view of scarcity of land in the state.

''There is hardly any land available either with the state Government or the urban local bodies,'' he said adding that the developed land in the state had become unaffordable to economically weaker section and low income group of people.

To address this problem the Government had taken a policy decision to provide 75 SqM of land to every houseless person, he added.
