HC directs ADG to file report on kidnapping of witness
Patna, Nov 17(UNI) Patna High Court today directed Additional Director General of Police (special branch) D N Gautam to file a report in connection with the kidnapping of a witness of a murder case allegedly by JD(U) MP Prabhunath Singh and his associates.
Hearing a petition filed by Harendra Rai, son of Lalmuni Devi, who was earlier kidnapped and subsequently released by associates of Mr Singh, a division bench of the court comprising Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Samrendra Pratap Singh directed the ADG to file the report after the DIG (Saran range) failed to submit the report despite an earlier order.
The ADG had been directed by the court to supervise the investigation of the DIG concerned before filing the report on November 22.
Earlier, Lalmuni Devi personally appeared before the court and also filed an affidavit, alleging that she was kidnapped by Deenanath Singh and other associates of Prabhunath Singh. Ms Devi also narrated in detail the sequence of events during her captivity.
The bench also directed the registrar(vigilance) of the Patna High Court to keep Ms Devi in his custody at the guest house of the court till November 22. The court also directed him to find a Magistrate, well conversant in Bhojpuri, to record the statement of Ms Devi on November 20.
