HC approached seeking implementation of Mulki rule

Bangalore, Nov 17 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today admitted a writ petition, seeking a direction to the State Government to implement the Mulki Rule in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region for providing Government jobs to locals.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice Abdul Nazeer admitted the petition.

The petitioner, Hyderabad-Karnataka Horata Samithi President and Chincholi MLA Vaijnath Patil, contended that the erstwhile Nizam had accorded reservation for locals in Government jobs in view of the backwardness and economic condition of the four districts in the H-K region, commonly known as the Mulki Rule. This rule had continued till the Re-organisation of States in 1957. However, the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh Government continued the Mulki Rule even now in the backward Telangana region. The Karnataka Government had not taken any steps for its implementation despite representations.
