Govt-Maoists peace accord to be signed next week

Kathmandu, Nov 17: The signing of the Comprehensive Peace agreement between the government of Nepal and the Maoists has been postponed till November 21, according to the government and the Maoists.

The agreement which was scheduled to be signed on Thursday has been postponed as both the sides needed some prior home work to be done to reach to the agreement, it said.

''Once a consensus is elicited over the contentious issues in the interim statute, the talks teams will be give a final shape to the Comprehensive Peace Accord on a day designated by the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Prachanda,'' Dev Gurung of the Maoists is reported to have said.

Management of arms under the monitor of the UN, fate of monarchy, election of the constituent assembly and finalisation of interim statuate are the major issues of the agreement.
