CPI peasants' wing opposes land acquisition
Kolkata, Nov 17 (UNI) As the Opposition in West Bengal cries foul over taking over agricultural plots, the Krishak Sabha, a frontal wing of the Left Front partner CPI will hold a convention against 'indiscriminate' acquisition of crop land for industrial purpose.
" We will demand a ceiling on allotment of land for Special Economic Zones. There should be a rule barring acquisition of more than 1,000 acre of land, " Krishak Sabha General Secretary Probodh Panda today said.
The Krishak Sabha's meeting coincided the 'Singur-Dandi march' of the Opposition Trinamool Congress vowing to stall acquisition of agricultural land for setting up of industries.
Mr Panda said the Krishak Sabha was against the way land was being given to industrialists and it would oppose the proposed acquisition of 15,000 acre of land at Nandigram in East Midnapore district.
" We do not think that industrialists like the Tatas have changed their hearts. We will not not allow the proposed acquisition of the multi-crop land at Nandigram. About 40,000 people will be displaced if the acquisition takes place, " he said.
