Court sets Guddu Khan free

Mumbai, Nov 17 (UNI) The Sessions Court here today released Guddu Khan, presumed dead in connection with his own murder, from judicial custody.

Guddu Khan was brought from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and produced on Wednesday, before Additional Sessions Judge K D Rathod who remanded him to judicial custody till his statement was recorded.

After recording his statement, Judge Rathod released him today.

Khan, had eloped with one Premlata to Mumbai in December 1995 where he stayed with her till March 1996 before he fled to Bareilly and had been absconding since then.

But police arrested four people - Dara Singh, Neetu, Premlata and Jawaharlal Sharma - after they found a mutilated body which was allegedly identified as that of Guddu Khan in May 1996. However, the foursome obtained bail after 60 days of their custody.

When they came to know that Khan was alive, they informed the court and filed their discharge application in April this year.

However, they are still awaiting court orders for their discharge application filed eight months ago.

Counsel for the accused asked the court to issue an order for their discharge application today itself since Khan, presumed to be dead, was found alive and presented before the court and his statement recorded.

The court, however, gave time to public prosecutor to file her say till tomorrow.
