Chandigarh Carnival to kick off on Nov 25
Chandigarh, Nov 17 (UNI) A two-day mega annual tourism event -- Chandigarh Carnival -- will get under way here on November 25.
Public Relations and Tourism Director Vivek Atray told media persons yesterday a lot of activities had been planned for the event, which would include theme-based, country, state and village besides fun, frolic, folks, entertainment for all age groups. Art and culture, cuisine of North India and three musical evenings featuring Shibani Kashyap, Javel Ali and Santokh Singh.
Mr Atray said this year the carnival would be celebrated with the theme country 'Singapore', depicting costume, cuisine, books and culture of the City-State.
He said Singapore, which is an inspiration for Chandigarh, with no natural resources, attracts tourists more than its population. The AC taxis in the city were introduced on the pattern of Singapore and more schemes likely to be introduced soon on City-State pattern, he added.
The second theme of the carnival would be Rural Tourism, which is being promoted in the City Beautiful in a big way, especially for the international tourists, who are keen to taste the rural life of India.
