Bomb threat: SR tightens security
Chennai, Nov 17 (UNI) Security has been beefed up further in the Southern Railway(SR) network especially on the Chennai Central- Coimbatore sector, following an anonymous bomb threat call received by the City Police Control Room here today.
Police said, the anonymous caller informed the Police Control Room that a bomb had been planted in Chennai Central-Coimbatore Cheran Super fast express train and it would go off, when the train approaches Salem Junction.
The City Police had alerted the Southern Railway authorities about the call, following which the Southern Railway enhanced the security measures at Chennai Central station, Coimbatore Junction and all the important railway stations between Chennai and Coimbatore, particularly the Salem junction, police added.
Additional Security personnel were deployed in these stations for conducting through check of passengers and their luggages.
The security had been tightened in all the important railway installations and bridges besides intensifying the track patrol, Southern Railway sources added.
