Army sents 30 village elders from Kashmir to Ajmer

Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) The Army has sent a group of 30 village elders of north Kashmir on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer.

The group was flagged off by 10 sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Commander Brigadier K S Venugopal. Besides Ajmer, the group will also visit Jammu and Jaipur.

The tour would expose the senior citizens of Kashmir to the world outside the Valley and provide opportunities for interaction with the people of other states, a defence spokesman said.

On the occasion, Brig Venugopal recalled the Sufi traditions of Kashmir and urged the people to revive Kashmiriyat and Sufism to rid the society of fundamentalism and terrorism.

He also exhorted the pilgrims to utilise this unique opportunity to interact with people of other parts of India and spread a message of brotherhood and friendship.
