Apollo Hospitals signs MoU with LHCL

Chennai, Nov 17: Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL) today signed an MoU with the Lanka Hospitals Corporation Limited (LHCL) to license its brand name and assist with the management of Apollo Hospital in Colombo.

AHEL Chairman Prathap C Reddy and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC) Chairman H Jayawardhane, whose company had acquired major stake in the LHCL, signed the MoU in this regard here.

AHEL, which had 33.22 per cent stake in the Apollo Hospital, Colombo and was operating in Sri Lanka under the LHC, recently divested the entire stake in favour of SLIC.

Addressing a press conference here, Dr Reddy said the newly-constituted Board of Directors of LHCL reviewed the operations of the hospital and deemed it essential to have an affiliation with the AHEL.

Under the new agreement, the new Board of Directors would have control over the operational management of the hospital. However, the hospital would contintue to be called 'Apollo Hospital, Colombo.' The AHEL would assist the LHC in obtaining accreditation from the Joint Commission International for Apollo Hospital, Colombo and also with the recruitment of medical personnel as and when required.

The agreement between the AHEL and LHC would be valid for a period of five years, subject to periodic medical audits conducted by the Apollo Group.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jayawardhane credited the AHEL with establishing and uplifting the standards of health care in Sri Lanka.
