50 candidates file papers for Mah by-elections in two constituencies

Mumbai, Nov 17 (UNI) As many as fifty candidates are in fray for two assembly constituencies of Chimur and Daryapur in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, where by-elections are scheduled for December 4.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) U P S Madan told reporters here today that 16 candidates had filed their nominations in Chimur while 34 candidates had submitted their papers in Daryapur.

The by-elections had been neccessitated due to the resignation of sitting Shiv Sena MLAs Vijay Waddetiwar and Prakash Bharksale from Chimur and Daryapur respectively from their seats and joining the Congress.

Both of them, close associates of ex-Shiv Sena leader and Revenue minister Narayan Rane, snapped ties with the Shiv Sena to join the Congress in July this year.

There are 175 polling booths in Daryapur and 209 in Chimur. The voting will take place through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

There are a total of 1,81,698 voters in Daryapur and 1,96,853 in Chimur.

Dr Ramesh Gajabe is the BJP candidate from Chimur while Shankar alias Balasaheb Gavande Hingnekar is the Shiv Sena candidate from Daryapur.

The scrutiny of papers will take place tommorrow. The last day of withdrawal of nominations is Monday. The elections will take place on December four and counting of votes will be on December seven.

There are 21 independents in Chimur and seven in Daryapur.
