12th Jr. National Athletics Championship from Nov 25

Bangalore, Nov 17 (UNI) About 1800 athletes from 18 states will be seen gunning for top honour in the 12th Junior National Athletics Championship to be held at Sri Kanteerava Stadium here from November 25 to 29.

Talking to newsmen here, Karnataka Minister for Major and Medium Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu, who is also the Championship Organising Committee Chairman, said the event would serve as selection trials to pick the probables for the forthcoming World Youth Championship to be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic and Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune in 2008.

Karnataka Athletic Association President G Parameshwara said in all 118 events would be held for Boys and Girls in the age groups of Under 14, 16, 18 and 20. Athletes from Andhra Pradesh, Asom, Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have confirmed their participation. Kerala would be fielding the highest contingent of 180, while host State Karnataka would field 96, he added.
