Youth commits self immolation ''to meet Lord Shiva''
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Nov 16 (UNI) A 19-year-old youth today allegedly committed self immolation at Vadji village about 50 km away from here, leaving behind a devoted song stating he was ending his life to meet ''lord Shiva''.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP-Rural) Navinchadnra Reddy confirmed the incident and said the youth, Krishna Bhand, was a devotee of Lord Shiva since his childhood and had written several songs.
The youth had, on several occasions, told his family members that he liked Lord Shiva and the latter had pleased him, Mr Reddy told UNI quoting from prima facie information gathered by the police from his family members.
The youth got up early in the morning and told his family members that he was leaving to meet Lord Shiva, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Anil Gaikwad at Pachod police station said quoting from the complaint, registered by the cousin of the deceased.
The youth went to their family farm field, a few km away from the village. He had collected wood for his own pyre by giving it a shape of pit and later reportedly lit the pyre on his own at about 0930 hrs.
People from neighbouring farm realised that the youth had committed self immolation, only after they arrived at the spot, on seeing smoke and fire, police sources said.
The Pachod police have seized the remains of his body from the site. An offence was registered under section 174, API Anil Gaikwad, who was investigating the case, said.
