Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2005 approved
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today accorded ex-post-facto approval to the amendment carried out in the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2005, which were passed by Parliament.
The Bill "would facilitate implementation of the urgent recommendations of the tiger task force appointed by the Prime Minister," Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told newspersons here.
The Bill aimed at strengthening conservation of tigers and other endangered wildlife species through effective combatting of wildlife crimes by constituting the Tiger and Other Endangered Species crime control bureau (Wildlife Crime Control Bureau).
The legislation is expected to address the growing public concern in saving the tiger by reinforcing the ongoing initiatives to conserve tiger and other endangered wildlife species in view of the preseent threats and need for a viable habitat, he said.
