Vaiko to observe fast in Delhi to condemn killings in Lanka
Chennai, Nov 16 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, a staunch supporter of Lankan Tamils, will observe a fast in New Delhi on November 27 to condemn the killings of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a high-level meeting of the party held here today.
The fast by Mr Vaiko would coincide with the visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to India.
In another resolution, the MDMK urged the Central government to persuade the Lankan government to open the A-9 National Highway in Jaffana to give security Tamils.
''The Centre should also take back the surveillance radars provided to the Lankan Air force,'' it added.
The MDMK would also stage a demonstration in front of the Sri Lankan embassy in the city tomorrow. The demonstration would be led by Mr Vaiko.
The meeting also passed a reoslution urging the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate steps to increase the storage level in the Mullaiperiyar dam from 136 ft to 142 feet.
