Surendra Mohan threatens to float JD(S) in Kerala

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Angered by the Janata Dal (Secular)'s electoral dalliances with BJP in the coming Chamundeshwari Assembly bypoll, a group led by senior leader Surendra Mohan today threatened to convene the party's national convention in Kerala in the last week of December.

Mr Mohan, a member of the National Executive, condemed JD(S) President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda for giving an 'indication' that the party would contest next General Election in alliance with the BJP. ''It is a further evidence of continued betrayal of basic policy of the JD(S),'' Mr Mohan said in a statement. ''The Kerala convention would 'float' a political party pledged to basic principles of socialism, democracy and secularism,'' he added.

Majority of the JD(S) MLAs are part of the BJP-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka. The party has three MPs including Mr Deve Gowda and and M P Veerendra Kumar, who is part of ruling Left and Democratic Front in Kerala.

Asked for his reaction, JD(S) Secretary General K Danish Ali said Mr Mohan had sought Mr Gowda's resignation in February and his proposal was 'unanimously rejected' by the Executive in his own presence. Even now his proposal will not garner any support, Mr Ali said, adding that Mr Mohan instead of finding fault with Mr Gowda, should have appreciated the stand taken by the former PM on providing reservation benefits for Muslims.
