Space tech to combat orange prod loss in NE
Aizawl, Nov 16: The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) has installed a high-resolution satellite technology to determine the causes of production loss of oranges in the Northeastern states.
The orange production suffered heavily in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Asom for past few years where about 17 varieties of orange including Mandarin species of China are grown.
Nearly 2,00,000 tonne of orange production suffered during past five years in these states, according to statistics.
''The satellite images will provide data on soil quality, weather conditions and other natural factors, which will then be analysed for finding a solution to combat production loss'', NESAC director Dr K C Bhattacharjee told UNI today.
