Season's first snowfall in Drass

Kargil, Nov 16 (UNI) Drass, world's second coldest place, today witnessed season's first snowfall, while upper reaches in Kargil recorded heavy snowfall resulting in a considerable drop in temperature.

The electric poles, tree, rooftops and roads were covered under a thin blanket of snow. About four inches of snowfall was recorded since early morning.

The nearby Kargil and other plain areas experienced rains, resulting in severe cold.

The upper reaches in Kargil and Drass recorded heavy snowfall during the past two days.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers at Sonmarg protested against the decision of authorities to close down the Srinagar-Drass-Kargil-Leh national highway for six winter months from yesterday, after about one-foot snow was recorded at Zojila pass.
