Russian Parliament proposes postponing Saddam's death sentence
Moscow, Nov 16 (UNI) The State Duma, Lower House of the Russian Parliament, has adopted a statement on Iraq, proposing to postpone the death sentence handed down to deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
''The execution of Saddam, may result in a new wave of severe resistance, revenge and enmity, rather than in the solution of existing problems of the long-suffering Iraqi people,'' the statement by the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee said yesterday. Noting their respect towards ''Iraq's sovereign right to apply justice,'' Duma deputies said, ''The praise or criticism of the ruling passed by Iraqi judges by some foreign politicians is an attempt to interfere in Iraq's domestic affairs and an aspiration to influence the decision of the Iraqi justice system.''
