Robbers decamp with truck containing iron-rods

Anand, Nov 16 (UNI) Robbers have allegedly decamped with a truck containing iron-rods near Khambholej village on the Anand-Umreth highway.

The truck, whose registration number is RJ 27GA 1943 was being driven by one Mr Ratanlal Goitayji. He was proceeding from Mumbai to Faridabad, when another truck suddenly overtook him and parked itself in front, forcing him to halt his truck, police said.

Immediately thereafter, five to six men, in the age group of 30-35 years jumped out brandishing knives and assaulted the driver and his cleaner, before decamping with Rs 22,000 in cash and the truck containing the iron rods late yesterday evening, police explained.

In view of the fact that the truck itself was worth Rs 11 lakhs, the robbery was to the tune of Rs 11.22 lakhs, they added.
