K'taka: Police exchange fire with naxalites group

Udupi, Nov 16: The members of the Anti-Naxalites Squad of the state police had exchanged fire with a group of naxalites near Shankaranarayana forests in Udupi district this morning.

The Inspector General fo Police, Mangalore range, Sathyanarayana Rao told UNI that the exchange of fire took place with the naxalites at about 0530 hours.

Details of the incident were awaited. Senior police officers have rushed to the spot.

The face-off with the naxalite group in Udupi district was followed with the recent incident of maoists group which attacked a forest checkpost in Chickmagalur district and took away a rifle from the forest guard last month.
