Penguin publishers join HarperCollins
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) HarperCollins India has appointed top editors V K Karthika and Krishan Chopra in a move aimed at widening its base in the burgeoning Indian publishing industry.
Karthika and Chopra had been Penguin India's Executive Editors before joining HarperCollins India, a joint venture between HarperCollins Worldwide and the India Today Group.
Karthika has been appointed as Publisher and Chief Editor to lead the overall development of the local publishing programme and Chopra joins as Chief Editor, Collins Business and Fourth Estate, HarperCollins India said today.
''We are excited about the growth potential of India's burgeoning publishing industry. These appointments will help HarperCollins define its presence in India, as well as support the company's global objectives,'' said HarperCollins Worldwide president and CEO Jane Friedman in a statement.
The appointments will help ''discover many other stars in the Indian writing firmament'' for domestic and world audiences, said HarperCollins India today chairman Aroon Purie.
Karthika had been Penguin India's Publisher of its Puffin, Ladybird and Penguin Malayalam imprints. Chopra is expected to develop the Collins business list in India with titles focusing on management, finance and economics.
