PDP to back LDF in bypoll

Kozhikode, Nov 16 (UNI) The Kerala-based Muslim outfit, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said it would extend support to the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate in the December 4 Thiruvambadi bypoll.

Talking to mediapersons here, party working Chairman Poonthura Siraj said the decision was taken by party Chairman Abdul Nazar Mahdani after consulting the Kendra Karva Samithy.

The party, which had supported the LDF in the last assembly poll, decided to continue its support to the ruling coalition as there was no drastic change in the political scenario of the state since the LDF assumed office, he added.

Although the LDF had not succeeded in securing the release of Mr Mahdani, jailed in connection with the Coimbatore serial blast case for the last nine years, he said the party appreciated the move initiated by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to achieve the goal.
