Pawar working against UP cane farmers: Mulayam

Babatpur, Varanasi, Nov 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today alleged the Centre had banned the export of sugar, only to harm the interests of cane farmers in the state.

''Due to the policies of our government and hard work of cane farmers, UP pushed Maharashtra to the second spot in terms of sugarcane production. This irked Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, hailing from Maharastra and resultantly export of sugar was banned by the Centre to harm the interests of UP's cane farmers,'' he alleged while addressing a public meeting here.

Continuing his frontal attack on the Centre, Mr Yadav said while the UPA government was funding power projects in other parts of the country, UP has been devoid of central assistance in this regard. ''Even our efforts to enhance power production through projects in private sector are being blocked by the Centre,'' he added.

''Take the example of Dadri, where the gas supply is being refused by the Centre to tarnish the image of our government. They (Centre) will only release the gas to Dadri project once the assembly polls are over in UP,'' he claimed.
