Nanaji Deshmukh undergoes heart surgery

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Senior RSS leader nonagenarian and former Rajya Sabha member, Nanaji Deshmukh today underwent heart surgery at a city hospital.

A team of doctors, led by Dr Clair, at Escorts Hospital successfully implanted Mr Deshmukh (91) with a pacemaker, hospital sources said.

He was in the ICU and recovering well. He would be moved out to a room in a day or two, they added.

Mr Deshmukh was brought to the capital from Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh on November 14.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader L K Advani yesterday called on him at the hospital.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also spoke to Mr Deshmukh over telephone and inquired about his health.
