Mulayam calls for decisive battle against united opposition
Babatpur, Varanasi, Nov 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today gave a call for decisive battle against the ''unholy BJP-BSP-Cong combine'' in the 2007 state assembly elections.
Addressing a programme to distribute cheques to 37,000 beneficiaries of Kanya Vidya Dhan (KVD) and unemployement allowance schemes for Varanasi and Chandaulli districts here, Mr Yadav called upon Samajwadi Party workers to go on the offensive and launch a decisive battle against the unholy BJP-BSP-Cong combine.
''Ab nirnayak sanghursh ke liye taiyar ho jayein'' (get ready for the decisive battle),'' was Mr Yadav's war cry to party workers.
He also asked the party rank and file to go to people and spread the 'mantra' of development scripted by the SP-led government in the state during its over three-year regime.
''Hum jo kehte hai vohi karte hai (we do what we say),'' he said, adding the party workers should not only spread our development initiatives among the masses, but also revive among the people the bitter memories of the ''Zalim Hukumat'' (terror regime) of the BSP-led government.
Later, talking to mediapersons, Mr Yadav reiterated he has sent a letter to the Election Commission recommending assembly polls in February next.
''It is the best time of holding elections, with salubrious climate, no festivals and the culimination of the Ardh kumbh in Allahabad. Now it is upto the EC to decide,'' he advised.
On the prospective pre-poll alliance, the SP supremo said the party will go to the polls alongwith its present allies -- RLD and LCP. ''We are still open to more allies, but let them come to us,'' he maintained.
Refusing to admit that the SP had suffered a setback during the recent local body polls, Mr Yadav said the party had lost in mayoral elections, but won the nagar panchayat polls.
''The local bodies poll have truly exposed that BJP-BSP-Cong were one against the popular SP regime,'' he said referring to statements by BSP chief Mayawati, where she admitted she had asked the electorate to vote for the BJP and Congress candidates.
The SP supremo also said the Muslims were hurt by the recent utterances of Ms Mayawati and will teach her a lesson during the assembly polls.
