Mizoram to tap non-conventional energy sources
Aizawl, Nov 16: Zoram Energy Development Agency (ZEDA) has decided to utilise untapped energy from the alternative sources in Mizoram.
ZEDA launched awareness campaign to popularise the non-conventional sources of energy in the state since Monday to mark the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas, 2006.
ZEDA Project officer Benjamin L. Tlumte said the state has very little awareness about alternative sources of energy and they were trying to turn the focus on sources of renewable energy like solar, wind, biogas and small hydro projects.
With the help of Ministry of non-conventional energy, Mizoram government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to provide electricity to unelectrified villages, through renewable energy resources, by 2007, Mr Benjamin said.
Being the forest rich state, Mizoram coupled with implementation of various a forestation schemes during its 11th plan period, the government would identify all kinds of available degraded wastelands irrespective of private lands, council lands, unclassed areas, revenue lands to tap the non-conventional energy resources in various forms, he added.
