Mizoram airport to get facelift as par with intl standards
Aizawl, Nov 16: North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned Rs 6.58 crore for upgradation of Mizoram's airport at par with international standard.
The upgradation includes extension of fire station, construction of roads around the airport, renovation of terminal building and construction of a waiting shed outside the terminal building.
According to Officer on Special Duty Wg Cdr Joe Lalhmingliana, the state government would install an instrument landing system (ILS) to avoid the frequent flight cancellation.
Two fire tenders were being imported from Czechoslovakia with a cost Rs 2.5 crore each under the modernisation plan of the airport.
Besides this, to complement the ILS, Airport Authority of India would install a Digital Current Weather Information System (DCWIS) since the system now in use is visual flight rules in which a trained meteorological officer uses line of sight to estimate visibility.
