Head Constable arrested in theft case
Chennai, Nov 16 (UNI) A head constable attached to the crime wing of Flower Bazaar Police Station was arrested here today for alleged involvement in a robbery from two jewellers of Coimbatore recently.
Police said the arrested Ramamoorthy led a gang of thieves and intercepted the jewellers, who were proceeding to Chennai Central Railway Station, after purchasing 3.5 kg jewellery from a shop on N S C Bose road here. They asked the jewellers some questions.
While the jewellers were replying, the gang threatened them and forcibly took them away in a vehicle.
The vehicle was stopped at suburban Vandalur and the jewels snatched. They threw the jewellers out of the vehicle and sped away.
Based on a complaint from them, police registered a case.
Police said, the arrest of the head constable would help nab the other gang members. Further investigations were on.
