HC asks CBI to submit final report on Housing Scam by December 19

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to wind up the investigation and file the final report in the housing scam by December 19, the next date of hearing.

A division bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar directed the CBI to file the report on each group of the 135 societies so that the petition was disposed off at the earliest.

The Court directed the Registrar Cooperative Societies to file the report in response to the petition by the original members of the defunt societies so that the societies could be handed over to the bonafide members.

The Judges asked the Union Home Ministry and Delhi Government to accord sanction within 15 days so that the pending chargesheets could be filed against the officials who were allegedly involved in the housing scam.

When the registration of new housing societies was stopped by the state government in 1995, the revival of the defunct societies were started by the builders in connivance with the authorities, submitted a counsel.

Talking about the probe, CBI Counsel Harish Gulati said the investigation in relation to all the housing societies had been completed.

The CBI Counsel said the agency had already filed about 60 criminal cases against the culprits in the lower court.

The CBI had given clean chit to 22 housing societies including the 19 names submitted earlier.

Hearing the petition of Yogi Raj Group Housing Societies, the court observed that the objective of cooperative movement was defeated due to the nexus between corrupt officials and the builders.
