Harsh Vardhan opposes tax on ground water
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) BJP Delhi President Harsh Vardhan today opposed Central and Delhi governments' proposed policy of imposing tax on ground water.
Terming the policy as anti-farmer, he said UPA governemt at the Centre was not worried about the poor farming population. And Delhi government was one step ahead as Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had twice made serious efforts to levy tax on use of groundwater in the city, a statement said.
Central Water Resources Ministry and the Planning Commission were preparing to include the policy of levying tax on extracting ground water in the 11th Five Year Plan, he said.
''If this happens, it will make more difficult for the agriculture sector in the country,'' the BJP leader said.
While in the capital, 30 per cent of the citizens were getting potable water from ''their own channels'' as they did no have the facility for getting municipal water, he added.
