Govt has strength to defeat no-confidence motion: Dasmunsi
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) The government is fully prepared to face opposition-sponsored no-confidence or adjournment motions in the winter session beginning November 22 as it has sufficient strength in both Houses, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said today.
''The opposition has every right to move such motions, but the government has the capacity to demonstrate its majority,'' Mr Dasmunsi told reporters while replying to queries at the weekly Cabinet briefing.
The BJP and its allies in the NDA have announced their decision to take the government to task in Parliament on the domestic and international policies being pursued by the UPA.
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee would begin on November 18 the exercise of meeting leaders of various parties ahead of the winter session, he said.
The Rajya Sabha may be adjourned without transacting any business on November 22, while the Lok Sabha would have a normal sitting on the first day, the Minister said.
