EFC clears 2 projects amounting to Rs 151 cr
New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Delhi government's Expenditure Finance Committee today gave its nod to two projects of Public Works Department amounting to Rs 151 crore.
Under the projects, approved in an EFC meeting chaired by Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia, a new three-level modern grade separator would be constructed at Azadpur Intersection to make it signal-free.
Public Works Department would complete this project within 30 months at an estimated cost of Rs 147.72 crore. It would have a grade separator joining Ring Road and Road No.51, underpass on GT Karnal Road, Mall Road and Mall Road Extension, Rotary at ground level for right turns, pedestrian subway for movement of bus commuters, a cycle track, railing and footpath.
This would also have proper rainwater harvesting infrastructure apart from beautiful landscaping. Delhi Metro would also pass through this junction from Model Town to Jahangirpuri side.
Azadpur Intersection is one of the busiest junctions catering heavy traffic from various directions -- Mukarba Chowk NH-1, Ring Road from Shalimar Bagh side, and Mall Road from Model Town side.
The traffic was further multiplied due to Azadpur Subzi Mandi as many heavy vehicles laden with fruits and vegetables passed through this intersection everyday.
The Ring Road also carried a very large volume of traffic from Pitampura, Rohini, connected the NorthWest district passing from this junction and catered to a large residential area adjoining Mall Road, Mall Road Extension among other colonies.
It also connected newly-constructed Road No.51, which joined the junction to Outer Ring Road at Mukundpur Crossing. After coming up of this grade separator, Road No.51 would become the part of the Ring Road.
The grade separator was expected to facilitate better road communication for decongestion of Delhi roads in view of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Another proposal of the PWD that had been cleared related to improvement of 'right of way' and strengthening of Master Plan Road No.108 from Noida to Mix Housing Kondli Village in Mayur Vihar Phase-III at an estimated cost of Rs 3.46 crore.
