Earn 'Stamp of Quality' CII tells Indian industry

Bangalore, Nov 16 (UNI) The Indian industry should srive beyond its successful adoption of highlevels of quality and competitiveness to attain the ''stamp of quality'' for its products in the world, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) President R Seshasayee said today.

Addressing the CII's 14th Quality Summit focusing on 'Sustainable and Inclusive Growth through Quality and Competitiveness' here he said a big gap still remained between those companies like IT players that had achieved high rate of quality and a majority of other industry which were performing only 'marginally'.

Saying that CII was committed to spread the quality drive in the country, Mr Seshasayee said, to achieve inclusive growth the industry should take their 'growth impulses' to the backyard of the Indian Economy. ''Inclusive growth had to be replicated and scaled up and CII will make it a mission that this 'quality journey' is sustained,'' he said.

He said quality, which was taking roots in the industry, was becoming the way of life. The industry had transcended from quality being thrust upon it to becoming models in practicing high levels of quality management.

''However, we don't have quality in some major parts of life which is performing marginally meeting only a 'pass mark'. The two extremes -- some performing very high and a majority very low has to be bridged to arrest the alarming decline in the non-physical infrastructure in the backyard of India,'' he said.
